Malaysian-born international kickboxing promoter, Raymond Chan aims to emulate the legendary boxing impresario Don King by creating world-class title bouts featuring the who’s who in the sport through the newly unveiled CI-K World Kickboxing Series.
CI-K which is closely linked with Wu Lin Feng, the premier and most respected kickboxing platform in China has been transformed via the introduction of rules tailored to promote the sport as wholesome family entertainment while meeting the expectations of global television audiences.
Chan who has been promoting kickboxing events in China which attracts television audiences in excess of 100 million is betting on the growing international interest in the sport and is convinced the CI-K World Series will address the absence of a single global platform which facilitates leading exponents to vie for honours in the various weight classes while promoting a commonly acceptable ranking standard.
Speaking at the unveiling of the CI-K World Kickboxing Series here today, Chan, the Vice President of CI-K Kickboxing International Sdn Bhd, expressed confidence in growing and sustaining interest in CI-K Kickboxing and to compete on the international stage alongside others sports such as boxing, tennis, golf, badminton and athletics. CI-K is the global face for Wu Lin Feng and is poised to become a major world brand in the near future.
“Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has now become a major sports and entertainment property worldwide. Testament to MMA’s growing popularity and exponential growth is the mushrooming of dedicated entertainment fight channels worldwide.
“While the CI-K World Kickboxing Series is an individual event, the CI-K World Challenger Series will feature bouts between fighters representing their respective nations or group of nations.
“CI-K Kickboxing with its lightning quick kicks, rapid-fire power-packed punches and powerful jabs is highly skillful and exciting for both fans who are watching live at the arena or as well as home audiences across the globe compliments of pervasive live and recorded sports programs as the violence associated with many other fight sports has been reduced making it more palatable to TV stations and global audiences.”
CI-K Kickboxing International has enlisted the services of world-class specialists to take the competition global. CI-K will partner Total Sports Asia (TSA), a global leader in sports content and branding solutions, to manage the global media rights sales and sponsorship for both series. Malaysia based TSA is the largest independent sports marketing company in Asia with an extensive international footprint.
“We are confident we can replicate our success from other worldwide brands to add value to our partnership with CI-K, especially in terms of sponsorships and worldwide distribution of television rights,” said Mr. Marcus Luer, Group CEO of Total Sports Asia.
Media specialists, Zenith Media, one of the world’s largest media services company will leverage its extensive global network and its expertise in branding and media to provide media advisory services to help build the CI-K brand worldwide.
The CI-K World Kickboxing Series will comprise 15-20 fights a year between top fighters from different parts of the world and will culminate with the crowning of World Champions in each respective weight category. The fights will be held across the Asia Pacific region and Malaysia has been tapped to host several bouts.
“As a Malaysian involved in promoting this sport, I am excited with the launch of both inaugural series in Kuala Lumpur and will also invest my organisation’s efforts to develop and promote kickboxing interests in Malaysia.
“There is fledgling interest in Malaysia and several bouts are in the pipeline to facilitate introduction and development of Malaysian boxers in this fast growing sport,” added Chan.
CI-K Kickboxing International also appointed Zenest Event Management Sdn Bhd as the local event organiser for all fights staged in Malaysia.
The launch in Kuala Lumpur featured several major world class and Malaysian fighters who gave a demonstration of some of the fight moves. They were Yi Long, ‘The Shaolin Warrior Monk’, 23, and 19-year old Tie Ying Hua, currently ranked as one of the world’s best kickboxer, both from China; Leo Monteiro, 31, from Brazil; Weehard Rachanon, 26, from Thailand and Malaysia’s very own Saiful ‘The Vampire” Merican, 24, and 25 year- old Muhammad Ali Yaakub.
About CI-K Kickboxing International
CI-K Kickboxing has its roots from the popular Wu Lin Feng Kickboxing programme in China broadcast by Henan TV for the past eight years. CI-K has been created to transform the successful Wu Lin Feng Series and rebrand it to give it greater international appeal and also to market it globally. CI-K recognises that repackaging the Wu Lin Feng programme and changing its operational activities to a more international standard will add value to the programme at a time where there is a void in stand-up fighting left by K-1 of Japan.
