The Masters League will once again showcase the legends of
the game in a series of live competitive tournaments across
the UK and Dubai. Featuring some of the best-known names
from Britain’s leading leagues with stars such as Peter
Beardsley, Ian Wright, Ally McCoist, Glenn Hoddle and
Neville Southall all regulars in the fast-paced six-a-side
tournaments.
Masters Football is a lightning-paced and highly competitive
6-a-side indoor football event played in an arena configured
to the size of an ice-hockey arena. Masters Football is
exclusively endorsed and sanctioned by the English FA and
the Professional Football Association (PFA), the world’s
longest established professional sportsmen’s union.
Each football team can use a squad of ten players for each
game, with a maximum of six on the pitch at any one time. An
unlimited number of substitutions can be made by each team
at any time during the game ensuring a blistering pace. The
ball is always in play and there are no off-sides, offering
plenty of goals and guaranteeing non-stop action.
Masters players are chosen by the PFA based on a number of
criteria.
Many of the players take part in veteran teams for their
clubs and each
Masters team is made up of players that have contributed to
their respective clubs. To keep the event competitive,
fitness and age are also taken into consideration,
maximising each team's potential.
There are 10 events in the 2007 season. The Masters Cup will
take place throughout June and July. The Masters Cup is a
series of eight regional qualifying events where the winning
team from each group goes through to the Masters Cup Grand
Final, held in early September.
